Author/presenter

Andrei Kononov is the Executive Chef of The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Melbourne and an Institute of Hospitality in Healthcare (IHHC) Victoria Branch Committee member.

He has previously held culinary leadership roles in fine-dining restaurants, cafes, venue groups, schools, airports, and zoos.

Describing himself as a tech optimist, he believes that we have a personal and professional responsibility to stay up to date on emerging technological trends. And while he does not think that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will take our jobs, he does think that somebody who knows how to leverage it might.

Synopsis

AI is possibly one of the most discussed topics of the last 12 months. It has caused worker panic proportionate to the extraordinary business growth and valuations it has produced, but it can be a little difficult to pin down exactly what we are so worried about.

This presentation will go over some of the foundational basics regarding common types of AI models, how they are trained and how they function. It will aim to be entertaining and informative while providing some useful background on the terms and language used in the AI space.

Some of the technologies discussed will be:

  • Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Image recognition/generation models (IRGs)
  • Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
  • Key differences between AI technologies and Machine Learning (ML)

Once the terms of discussion have been established, the presentation will then move into areas where these technologies can be found. In fact, most of us are already using a form of AI on an almost daily basis as it becomes integrated into more of our everyday tech and apps.

The core of this presentation will be spent discussing where these technologies fit into the healthcare hospitality space, with an emphasis on the prediction that they will likely enhance and improve our workloads rather than make workers redundant. Especially in the midst of an ongoing worker recruitment and retention crisis, this is something that should be welcomed by our industry rather than shunned or ignored.

Industry applications discussed will include:

  • Patient onboarding/dietetic triage
  • Meal plan generation
  • Natural language meal ordering
  • Customisable tone and translation
  • Data collection via image recognition
  • Large volume data analysis
  • Patient feedback triage and response
  • Administrative/commercial support

Finishing the presentation will be examples of how some of these technologies could emerge in a variety of spaces across our industry to improve and enhance the workflow of professionals working in this space as well as achieve better outcomes for our patients/residents.

Thank you for considering this presentation abstract, I look forward to hearing from you.
